Fat barrier, puncture resistance and heavy fill in a premium-looking pack

Pet food packaging has quietly become one of the hardest flexible applications. Fat content attacks the laminate from the inside, kibble abrades and punctures from the inside, fill weights are heavy enough to stress every seal, and the category has premiumised to the point where the pack is expected to look like human food.

Those requirements pull against each other. Structures that resist fat migration are not automatically the structures that survive abrasion, and the film thickness that handles a 30lb fill is not the film that gives you a soft-touch premium finish. Getting all four is a specification exercise, and it is one we do regularly.
