Food packaging has to satisfy three constituencies that rarely agree. Operations wants a web that runs at full line speed and never jams. Quality wants a barrier that delivers the shelf-life claim with margin. Marketing wants a pack that looks like it costs more than it does.
Most packaging suppliers optimise for one and let the other two negotiate. We start by asking which one is the actual constraint. A product with 18 months of ambient shelf life and a 90-pack-per-minute line has a different answer to a chilled artisan product with a 21-day window - and pretending otherwise is how you end up with a beautiful pack that will not run.
